“I’m sorry to say this but you know what will happen if you meet her again,” Kota said to Yuri as the oldest in the group. They were sitting at the bench outside their practice room. Yuri just nodded his head.

“You have to choose Yuri,” Kota patted Yuri’s shoulder before he stood up and walked away. Yuri didn’t bother to look at Kota who was walking away and entering their practice room. He could not stop thinking of her.

Suddenly, his phone sounded. An email entered the inbox. It was from her. Yuri smiled.

‘How’s the practice?’


‘It’s tiring’

Yuri replied, smiling. He didn’t meet her for a week now. His heart was screaming, wanted to meet her.

However, after the incident last week, he knew he could not meet her.

“My dad is sick and I really wish I can meet him. Why he is so far away in US? And why I’m still here? I should be by his side. I’m scared that he’ll go before I could see him again.” Mai cried, sitting at the bench in the park. The park was so silent, only her sobs could be heard. The summer wind blew gently while her hair was waving softly. Yuri was sitting beside her, not knowing what to do. He never met this kind of situation before. Watching his loved one crying was hurting him. Slowly, without noticed it, he hugged her to calm her down.

Click! Click!

“Who’s that?” Yuri quickly let her go and looked at where the sound came from. He saw someone was running away. He wanted to catch him but he knew there was no way he could leave Mai alone. Mai was surprised too. She never thought that there was someone in the park.

Luckily, the person didn’t place the photos in internet but he blackmailed Johnny about it. It made Johnny really mad. Fortunately, Kota helped him.

‘Is it possible for us to meet again?’

Yuri’s smile instantly vanished. He didn’t know what to reply. He held the phone, looking at it, not moving. He sighed before pressing the keypad while biting his lower lip. Why the rules were so cruel? He had no choice.

‘No, I’m sorry’

Slowly, he closed his eyes and tears flowed down to his cheeks while his thumb pressed the green button. I’m really sorry. She didn’t reply. Yuri knew she would not although he hoped she will.

It had been a week since he emailed her. Yuri still followed his routine as usual; practice and straight went home. He tried to act as cheerful as he can but everyone in the group knew he was hurting very deep inside.

Today, he came to practice as usual. While everyone was taking break, suddenly, Yuto pulled him to the corner of the room, pushing him towards the mirror.

“What’s wrong with you?” Yuri shouted when Yuto pulled him.

“Shh...,” Yuto placed his index finger to his lips.

“I’m not supposed to tell you this,” Yuto continued, lower the volume of his voice, almost whispering. Yuri didn’t say a word, waiting for Yuto.

“She is going to America today,” Yuto said slowly.

“What?” Yuri was surprised.

“and...” Yuto wanted to continue.

“and what?” Yuri asked, more like forcing.

“she’ll never come back,” Yuto instantly answered. Yuri was truly shocked. He was panicked.

“How did you know?” Yuri asked. He actually didn’t want to believe what he heard.

“Makoto told me about it,” Yuto answered. Makoto was their classmate, a very good friend of Mai.

“When is her flight?” Yuri asked again, this time he had decided.

“Another one hour, I’m sorry I’m telling you this late. But...” Yuto could not continue when Yuri pushed him aside and ran out of the room.

“But I know you’ll try your best to meet her before she goes,” Yuto continued even though Yuri was not there.

Yuri kept running. He saw a taxi and quickly waved towards it. Now, he was in the cab, asking the driver to drive faster. He paid the taxi and ran through the glass entrance. People started to recognize him but he didn’t care. He had to find her. He looked around but there was no trace of her. People started to crowd him, screaming excitedly, asking for autograph.

“Mai!” He shouted till he could hear his own voice echoed. The crowd stopped all the noise. He took that chance and ran out of them, searching for her again. Then, he saw her. She was watching him from the level above him. She was smiling but he knew it was fake.

He quickly climbed the escalator, running on it. Mai’s eyes were following him. Now, he was standing right in front of her. Silent moment between them make Yuri felt awkward. So he decided to start the conversation.

“Mai, I’m...” Yuri took a step closer.

“No!” Mai suddenly stepped back.

“You can’t, if someone see, it’ll be horrid for you,” Mai said gently.

“I’m sorry Mai. I don’t know that you’ll...” Yuri stopped. He could not continue his words. He bit his lower lip.

“I just want you to know that I love you, Mai,” Yuri said, looking straight through her eyes and the tears started forming.

“Its fine, Yuri. I understand. We...” Mai stopped and surprised when Yuri suddenly held her in his arm. She slowly pushed Yuri away.

“No Yuri. You have a career and you must follow the rules if you want to succeed.” Mai said kindly, tried to control her tears and voice.

“Mai...” Yuri’s tears were flowing.

“We’ll not meet for the time being. Please use this chance for you to succeed in your career and when we meet again, you...” Mai could control it anymore. She cried and her voice was trembling. She stopped.

“I have to go,” Mai said suddenly and turned away from Yuri.

“Don’t forget me, Mai,” Yuri said loudly so Mai could hear it. He wanted to block her from going but he knew that was not the right thing to do. Tears flowed heavily and dropped to the shining tile of the floor. He had no choice.

“I’ll watch you from far,” Mai said to herself.
